Cornerstone Diagnostics @Work

Dean Reed
Vice President

Many people work in different roles at Cornerstone Diagnostics. The Cornerstone Diagnostics @Work series offers a glimpse behind the scenes into this busy reference laboratory, featuring staff from throughout the organization talking about what they do and why they do it.

What brought you to Cornerstone Diagnostics, and how long have you been here?

I previously worked with the CEO, Mike Huddleston, for a few years at another Lab in the Dallas-FT Worth area. I was consulting with Cornerstone Diagnostics at first, and then Mike asked if I would be interested in moving to Kentucky for a full-time position as Vice President. I accepted, and have really enjoyed helping Cornerstone Diagnostics in its diversification and development efforts.

What is your current role and what does a work day look like for you?

As Vice President, I am involved with strategy development, budgeting, management of sales and marketing, and help out in any way I can. I thoroughly am enjoying working for a smaller company and lab, after spending 25+ years managing a National Laboratory sales department.

How does the work you do benefit providers and patients?

We help medical providers who in turn are helping people who want to address and eliminate their dependency addiction issues. While I don't see the faces of our clients often, I know that we play a key role in helping to monitor the treatment medications, and provide clear answers with our testing services. We never forget that we are a business that serves others to the best of our ability.

Is there anything about your role that people might find surprising or unexpected?

Every day is different, but I enjoy visiting our clients and when they tell us we are doing a great job providing them with our service, it really makes me happy and humble at the same time. We love helping others in need and it is a fulfilling occupation.

What part of your job do you find the most challenging?

The most challenging part of my job is hearing and seeing the deaths that occur due to addiction, and all of us wish we could have helped that brother, sister, or neighbor before it got to that stage.

What gives you meaning and purpose in your work?

All of us at Cornerstone Diagnostics know that we help many patients and clients every day, as our motive and mission for doing so is faith based. We are commanded by God to love and to serve, and that's at the core of what we do every day.

Any other notes/items you'd like to include?

I am humbled to be a part of Cornerstone Diagnostics, and I have really enjoyed helping them grow and reach new markets. We will be SAMHSA certified by early 2024, and will be the only Kentucky lab with that DOT distinction. We have a motto at work, and it's simple, keep Kentucky dollars in Kentucky, and serve all in need.
